The 2012 Meursault Village is a blend of three parcels: Les Forges, Pellans and Chaumes des Narvaux and went through for a very slow malolactic. It has a lovely, perfumed bouquet with citrus peel, white peach and a touch of honeysuckle that is well-defined. The palate is very well-balanced with a fine line of acidity. It really builds in the mouth to a very intense finish. What a fabulous Meursault Village!
I have been an admirer of Pierre Morey’s wines since he was crafting magic at Anne-Claude Leflaive between 1988 and 1998. Since he departed, his own domaine has continued producing top notch white Burgundy in parallel with his successful negociant operation, “Morey Blanc”. There are 10 hectares of vines within the domaine that has adopted biodynamic principles since 1998. I met with his daughter Anne Morey, who immediately apologized for the lack of samples due to the tiny quantities produced. Like many, there were affected by the travails of the growing season but Anne seemed positive about the wines. “There is good depth in 2012 and there is great terroir expression and great density,” she opined.
