The gorgeous 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape blanc (a blend of 45% Clairette, 35% Grenache, and 20% Bourboulenc; aged primarily in stainless steel with 20% in demi-muids) offers up honeysuckle, white pear, white currant, and spring flower aromas. This full-bodied yet fresh, lively Chateauneuf is another example of the remarkable progress this appellation’s vignerons have made with their white winemaking program. Sadly, production is less than 6% of the total appellation volume, and only about 300 cases of white Chateauneuf du Pape are produced at Bosquet des Papes.
Bosquet des Papes has been one of my favorite estates for over three decades. Run by the charming Boiron family (the bigger than life Nicolas Boiron could be on an NFL team), they own beautiful vineyards throughout Chateauneuf du Pape.
