The brilliant 2000 Don Antonio is a selection made from the estate's oldest Nero d'Avola vineyards that has been aged 12 months in French oak prior to bottling. A complex bouquet of creme de cassis, blueberries, smoke, and graphite jumps from the glass of this dense purple-colored offering. Full-bodied, with sensational richness, fine purity, a long palate presence, and a layered finish, it should drink well for a decade or more.
Morgante is an up and coming winery that has brought in oenologist Riccardo Cotarella to oversee the winemaking. Cotarella has a strong interest in exploiting what he believes to be a varietal with tremendous potential, the indigenous Nero d'Avola.
