The 2005 Shiraz “Max’s Garden” was sourced from Heathcote. It was aged in French and American oak with 15% new French. It delivers a complex aromatic array of cedar, smoked meat, violets, pencil lead, blueberry, and blackberry. This leads to a medium-bodied Shiraz which is just a bit lean on the palate. Aside from that, it has solid flavors and a moderately long finish. Drink it over the next 8-10 years. Two Hands is a negociant operation run impeccably by Michael Twelftree. It reflects the best that can be sourced from all over South Australia. The packaging provides some serious design competition to Dan Philips’ Grateful Palate and R Wines portfolio.Importer: Terlato Wines International, Lake Bluff, IL; www.twohandswines.com; Also tasted: 2007 Riesling “The Wolf” (82)
