This wine, from a vineyard first planted by the Seghesios in 1895, offers a dense ruby/purple color, and a broodingly backward but promising nose of earth, pepper, jammy black raspberries, and spice. There is a structured tightness to this medium to full-bodied Zinfandel, but it possesses plenty of tarry, earthy, loamy flavors with good spice, body, and tannin. The wine cuts a deep impression on the palate, but it appears to need another 3-6 months in the bottle to fully open. It should last for 3-5 years. As I have previously reported, Seghesio, which possesses well-located vineyards in both Alexander Valley and Sonoma, is producing better and better wines.Tel.
