I prefer the 2010 Salmos, which demonstrates much more control and delineation on the nose with blackberry, violet and cassis, the oak nicely subsumed. The palate is well-balanced with better acidity than the 2009. Clean blackberry, cassis and touches of black tea lead to a fine mineral-rich finish that reminds me of a ripe Saint Emilion! It leaves the palate fresh and wanting more. This is far better than the 2009. Drink 2015-2023.
Torres, who needs no introduction, owns two vineyards in Bellmunt and Porrera, their respective hot and cooler microclimates offering a degree of balance in their two Priorat offerings, Salmos and Perpetual. The wines are augmented by outsourced fruit and I was told that they are presently seeking more old vine Carinena.
