Last Tasted 8/92
Niellon's 1985 Batard-Montrachet reveals less of the tropical fruit, exotic character of the 1986, and is built along a more classical, buttery, mineral-scented line. Nevertheless, it is as powerful and as rich as the 1986, with higher acidity and even more stunning length. It appears less-evolved, but that could be due to its less exotic character. Ideally, burgundy enthusiasts should have both the 1986 and 1985 vintages in their cellars. My instincts tell me that the 1985 may last longer than the 1986.
