Tasted at the Académie du Vin dinner in Bordeaux, the 1957 Poujeaux from magnum put in a creditable, if not life-affirming, performance. Initially, the aromatics remained closed until revealing light singed leather and pine needle scents. The palate is medium-bodied and surprisingly fleshy on the entry, with vestiges of red fruit; then it feels a little hollow on the second half and trips over its shoelaces upon the attenuated finish. Drink up if you still have any bottles. Tasted April 2017.
