The 2011 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Il Fornetto is the proverbial too-much-of-a-good-thing wine. You cannot understate the power and bold intensity delivered by this hot-vintage expression of 55% Corvina Veronese, 35% Corvinone and 10% Rondinella. This wine sees 140 days of appassimento, which is on the very high side of the spectrum, concluding with 16.5% alcohol and six grams of residual sugar per liter. The wine sits heavy on the palate thanks to its thick extraction and opulent delivery of jammy blackberry and Christmas spice. It will knock you off your feet. Only 3,000 bottles were made.
