Year in and year out, Jaboulet’s top white is the Hermitage Chevalier de Sterimberg, which is aged in new oak for nine months prior to bottling. The 2001 (a blend of 35% Roussanne and 65% Marsanne) exhibits aromas of ripe apples, honeysuckle, and flowers in a full-bodied, dense, chewy style with terrific texture, a rare unctuosity, good acidity as well as a long, concentrated, finish. Like most of these white Hermitages, it will drink well young, then close down, and re-emerge 10-12 years later. It will last for decades.
