The 2007 Water Witch Red Blend is composed of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Merlot sourced from the Klipsun Vineyard and aged in 92% new oak. Medium purple-colored, it presents an expressive nose of pain grille, pencil lead, espresso, violets, black currant, and blackberry. On the palate it displays some elegance despite its size. It has excellent volume, intense fruit, enough tannin to evolve for 2-3 years, and a lengthy finish. Drink this stellar effort from 2013 to 2027.
Mark Ryan McNeilly began his winery in 2000 and currently produces 6000 cases of bold, in-your-face wine (I said the same thing in Issue 177 and 185, but it is just as true now). He is now moving toward all native ferments which can only add more personality to his wines.
