The 2006 Barolo 4 Vigne is a pretty, feminine Barolo laced with fragrant red berries, cherries and flowers, all supported by fine, silky tannins. The 4 Vigne reveals lovely inner perfume in a soft, ethereal style that shows the more delicate side of Nebbiolo, and is an excellent choice for near-term drinking. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016. These new releases from Cascina Adelaide show quite a bit of potential. The estate seems to be working with high-quality fruit, even if today the wines lack that visceral thrill that might elevate them to another level. Ripe and sweet, showing plum and prune notes, with a touch of vegetal flavor. Yet this is fresh, with licorice and tobacco lurking in the background. There's plenty of flesh covering the tannins.
