Made with a blend of fruit from four different vineyard sites in La Morra and Serralunga d'Alba, the Cascina Adelaide 2016 Barolo 4 Vigne has a pretty cherry character that rises far above aromas of spice, tar and Indian cardamom pod. There is a point of bitterness on the tannins, sharper than we saw in the classic Barolo. Seeing both steel and 50-hectoliter French oak barrels, you taste the skins and tightness of the Nebbiolo grapes in this 15,000-bottle release. Once again, I'm a bit concerned that this astringency may never fully integrate, but only time will tell.
