The 2009 Valdehermoso Crianza comes from 20-year-old vines in Roa and is aged in 20% new oak for 18 months. It displays fine precision and clarity on the nose with dark cherries, cassis and dried rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, succulent tannins and plenty of clean, quite weighty, gripping black fruit toward the finish. This is a well-made, swarthy Crianza. Drink 2014-2020.
I was very impressed by the wines of Bodegas y Vinedos Valderiz: mostly Ribera del Dueros with character, precision and vivacity. These are well worth seeking out.
