Tasted in Beaune at the H?tel du Beaune, the 1976 Musigny Grand Cru from Drouhin is typical of the vintage -- the color faded with chestnut-tinged rim, the nose fragrant with autumn leaves and damp undergrowth, but still with vestiges of fruit, mulberry and cherry. The palate is well balanced with good acidity, light in style for a Musigny with a drop of soy tincturing the ferrous red fruit. It gently builds in the mouth (after all, this is Musigny!) towards a finish that suggests it was better 5-6 years ago. Yet considering the vintage and age, it is still a charming Musigny in its dotage. Tasted November 2015.
