The luxury-priced 1999 Dalmau Reserva (2,000 cases produced) made primarily from Tempranillo, was aged 24 months in new French oak where it also experienced malolactic fermentation. It exhibits copious quantities of spicy new oak along with hints of lead pencil shavings, creme de cassis, vanilla, and cedar in its medium to full-bodied, concentrated personality. Although backward and tannic, it is an impressive effort that should be at its best between 2008-2025.
