The 2006 TINTO is interesting for the vintage. Passadouro and winemaker Jorge Borges (also the co-owner/winemaker at Pintas) had some decent results in this difficult 2006 vintage, although this and most 2006s are wines to enjoy on the younger side, as they will likely seem a little less interesting as time goes on. For a basic Tinto, this is quite tasty, with attractive young fruit and just enough structure. The depth is respectable in the context of the vintage and price category, although like most 2006s, it does tail off fairly rapidly with air, its main flaw. It feels full in the mouth on first taste, with a tasty, dark chocolate nuance on the finish. Drink now-2013. Prices continue to see-saw here and at other wineries as importers and producers try to account for the economy and exchange rates, as well as more ordinary market concerns. The Reserva is UP, the Passa and Tinto are DOWN, at least according to estimated list prices, which are admittedly sometimes pure fiction (usually on the high side) compared to what happens in the actual marketplace. That said, the Tinto should be a nice value in 2007.Importer: Winebow, Inc., Montvale, N.J.; tel: (201) 445-0620
