One of the more modern-styled wines in every vintage, the Jaume family’s 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee les Origines checks in as a blend of 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 30% Mourvèdre, which was completely destemmed and aged 50% in concrete tanks and 50% in smaller barrels. Sporting a youthful ruby color as well as classic notes of graphite, black currants, licorice and smoked meats, this terrific 2006 is medium to full-bodied, nicely textured, and stays fresh and clean on the finish. While it’s drinking at full maturity today, it has at least another decade of longevity.
