The 1993 Lirac Reserve Cuvee de la Reine de Bois is made from a selection of 55-60-year old vines and composed of 30% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and 35% Mourvedre. The dark purple color is followed by sweet, jammy black fruit aromas intertwined with scents of freshly ground pepper and Provencal herbs. The wine possesses great fruit, full body, density, richness, and a heady, lush, mouthfilling finish. This large-scaled wine must have at least 14% alcohol. It has been years since I visited this domaine, but they have significantly improved the quality of their offerings. This jump in quality is evidenced by the new 1993 releases, from what has turned out to be a good to excellent vintage in the southern Rhone.Importer: Kysela Pere et Fils, Winchester, VA; tel (703) 888-7939
