The 1990 Maya (almost equal proportions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon) is a monster in the making. Its super-saturated, opaque black/ruby color is followed by a tight but promising nose of earth, cassis, smoke, and gobs of sweet fruit. In the mouth it is even richer, as well as more tannic than the regular Cabernet. The finish is long, sweet, and compelling.Dalla Valle's spectacular 1991s will not be released for another year. As impressive as these wines are, the 1990s have a slight edge at present.
