I do not know of any other California winery that has put together such a blend as Montelena's St. Vincent. This used to be a wine produced to utilize some of their Sangiovese. However, like many wineries, Montelena feels (as do I) that California Sangiovese is generally a failure, and can not compete with Italian Sangiovese. The 1998 St. Vincent exhibits smoky, tar, peppery, leathery, berry flavors, not much weight or depth, but good ripeness, a robust personality, and slightly high alcohol (14.1%). It is best drunk over the next 2-3 years. (Release date 9/01)Tel. (707) 942-5105; Fax (707) 942-4221
