The 1999 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Charmes remains true to the precocity of this vintage, furnished with bold, upfront strawberry and raspberry fruit laced with cassis - utterly charming but perhaps without the intellect that a vineyard like les Fuées might have imparted. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, supple tannins. There is plenty of flesh bridling this Chambolle, gently building to a confident, juicy and quite corpulent finish that will leave you satisfied. What it does not quite deliver is the precision that recent vintages have portrayed, yet it still remains a very satisfying Chambolle Charmes that has 10-15 years left in the tank. Tasted September 2015.
