The 2001 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Clos des Réas is drinking well, opening in the glass with an attractive nose of dried red fruits, plums, pencil shavings and a framing of nutty new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied and quite ample, its sweet core underpinned by chewy but ripe tannins. I suspect this was quite flamboyant in its youth, but it's becoming calmer and more respectable as it matures.
