A microscopic cuvee aged in 100% new oak, the 2000 Cote Rotie Les Grandes Places reveals a dark ruby/purple color as well as copious aromas of graphite, lead pencil shavings, vanilla, black currant, and cherry fruit. It is medium-bodied and elegant, but lacks the power and depth necessary to warrant a higher score. Nevertheless, this is a very good 2000 that should age nicely for 6-8 years.
