Icardi’s 2010 Barbaresco Montubert opens with dark concentration and a tight aromatic embroidery of tar, cola, licorice, cedar, dried cherry and black currant. The personality here is steady, strong and smart. Firm Nebbiolo structure holds it together beautifully. There is an initial shyness or restraint that unwinds as the wine spends more time in the glass. You can count on the same softening to occur with more cellar aging. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.
Founded in 1914, Icardi is located between the Langhe and Monferrato regions and is run by brother and sister team Claudio and Mariagrazia Icardi. The estate boasts 75 hectares of vines of which ten are farmed according to biodynamic principles.
