The 1997 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Fuées is very typical of the vintage. The nose comes laden with sweet fruit: red cherries and smudged strawberry, though it does not possess the nuance of subtlety of other vintages. Likewise, the palate ticks all the boxes when it comes to weight and concentration, but if anything, the sweetness is not quite attuned to the acidity and it feels just a little monotone in the mouth. It's a wine that wants to satisfy the senses, but not the intellect. Enjoy, but don't dwell on it too long. Tasted September 2015.
