Like the other wines in this collection, the oak signature that was once so prominent has been notably scaled back, resulting in a lighter, more streamlined and elegant Cascina Adelaide 2016 Barolo Baudana. This set of samples from the 2016 vintage, having seen a mix of steel and French oak barrels, deliver some of the best results ever from this estate. Dark, plump fruit and bright cherry are followed by bitter almond, cola and tart berry fruit. I'd give this Barolo a few more years to find harmony and more stability. This was a release of 6,000 bottles.

This red is broad and saturated with plum, cherry, mineral, mint and tar flavors, framed by a backbone of dense, stiff tannins. Those tannins have the upper hand now, but the resonant finish indicates there is plenty of fruit in reserve. Be patient.
