The 2001 Aglianico del Vulture Il Viola is, in a certain sense, the regular bottling, though the powerfully sweet and spicy nose and the long, dense flavors are anything but those of a simple wine. The tannins on the finish are still a bit rough, however, and the texture somewhat tightly wound, so a bit of patience before opening these bottles is highly advisable. Drink: 2005-2010.
