There are only 300 cases of the 2005 Pago Garduna, a 100% Syrah cuvee, sourced from an elevated section of the estate’s vineyards. The wine was barrel-fermented and aged for 20 months in new French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it delivers notes of smoke, meat, mineral, blueberry, and blackberry. The wine is a bit riper and richer than the 2004 with more cellaring potential. Full-bodied, intense, deep, and well-balanced, there is enough structure to support an additional 3-5 years in the cellar. This extracted, intense wine will be at its best from 2010-2022. Abadia Retuerta, located just outside the Ribera del Duero boundary, has turned out four excellent releases in the 2005 vintage.Importer: Kobrand Corporation, New York, NY; tel. (212) 490-9300
