The slate vineyards used for the 2012 Pegaso Barrancos de Pizarra always ferment in 3,000-liter oak vats. Having three vintages of this wine next to the same years from granite soils was really a revelation. Tasting slowly and letting the wines develop and open up in the glass, I came to the conclusion that the wines from these old vines on slate-textured soils have more depth than the ones from granite. And, this place of Cebreros, the quarter known as Arrebatacapas, is something special. 2012 feels ripe, a little more Mediterranean and always with that meat, blood and iron. This has power and elegance. 9,436 bottles produced.
