Argiano’s deeply-colored 2001 Brunello di Montalcino offers a pretty, aromatic nose along with notes of super-ripe fruit, sweet toasted oak, vanilla, tobacco and earthiness on a medium bodied frame of notable length and elegance, closing with fine tannins. It strikes a nice balance between modern and traditional styles, offering the flavors of the former and the structure of the latter. Several recent bottles have all been outstanding. It should be at its finest between 2008 and 2016.
