The 2005 Merlot, sourced from several vineyards. It was aged in mostly French oak for 18 months, 55-60% new. Dark ruby-colored, it offers up red and black currants, plums and earth notes. It has a supple entry onto the palate with spicy flavors, good balance, and an elegant personality. The finish is slightly compact and medium-long. Since I saw him last year, Mike Januik has moved into a splendid new winery in Woodinville which he shares with Novelty Hill Winery for whom he makes the wines.
