There are only 290 cases of the 2003 Gran Vino, a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Syrah and 5% Tempranillo aged for 19 months in new French and American oak. Opaque purple, it has a brooding nose of pain grille, pencil lead, tar, violets, black cherry, blackberry, and black currants. This is followed by a broad, layered yet elegant wine with superb balance and enough stuffing to evolve for another 10-12 years. Reminiscent of a top Pauillac, it should slowly blossom into something quite special. It will provide pleasure through 2035.Importer: Mark Clinard, Well Oiled Wine Company, Leesburg, VA; tel.
