The 2007 Etna Rosso Feudo di Mezzo Il Quadro delle Rose is arguably the richest and most powerful wine among these 2007s. The fruit tends towards the dark end of the spectrum. Tar, menthol and smoke add layers of richness to this massive Etna Rosso. Today, the Feudo di Mezzo Il Quadro delle Rose remains imposing and tannic, but it should develop nicely in bottle. It is one of the most backward, virile wines I have ever tasted from the Etna. With time in the glass, it is somewhat approachable today, but there is no substitute for bottle age. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027.
Proprietor Marc de Grazia is one of the pioneers of the Etna. Not only was he among the first producers to recognize the value of these once-forgotten, ancient terroirs, he also was the first producer to bring attention to the specific qualities of these vineyards by bottling single-parcel Nerellos that have become reference-point wines for the Etna.
