The 2011 Valderiz Tomás Esteban is an homage to the winery's founder, through this juicy and concentrated red, sourced from an old family vineyard with Tempranillo and some 5% white Albillo. It feels a bit closed at first and has some seriousness to it. With time, emerge notes of soil; it's very earthy and the fruit is ripe without excess, while the oak is clearly present but does not overwhelm. It turns more and more balsamic, developing aromas of camphor and aromatic herbs as it sits in the glass. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated and powerful with large tannins that are in need of a couple of years in bottle. 4,000 bottles were produced in 2011.
