The limited production 2002 Vermentino (250 cases) is one of the finest Vermentinos (known as Rolle in southern France) I have tasted, it exhibits an excellent nose of acacia flowers, citrus oils, honeyed grapefruit, and a hint of mint in the richly fruity, medium to full-bodied, fresh, lively personality. It is a great example of an unknown varietal that has excelled in the limestone-based soils of Tablas Creek. The white wines, which are Mediterranean in style, are well-worth checking out by those who find many Rhone Ranger whites too overblown and Chardonnays too woody and diluted.
