Representing around half of Michel’s 23-hectares, the 2011 Haut Cote de Nuits Rouge comes from the hill just behind Nuits-St-Georges toward Arcenant. It has a pleasant bouquet of raspberry and wild strawberry fruit that has a little more intensity than the Bourgogne Rouge. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip, nicely judged acidity and a crisp raspberry leaf and tealeaf finish that is clean and fresh. Fine. Drink now-2015.
Two doors down from Anne Gros is cousin Michel. I have been visiting here for a number of years and Michel always makes thoughtfully crafted wines. I sometimes do find them a little on the oaky side, which occasionally denudes them of some finesse, but they are very consistent.
