The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques comes from the family’s single block of 70-year-old vines, and sees about 50% new Troncais oak. It has a perfumed nose like the Craipillot, with a similar floral component, the fruit demonstrating a touch more vigor. The palate is medium-bodied and fleshy in the mouth. There is good weight here, a gentle crescendo toward its elegant finish, though it does not possess the persistency of Lavaux’s top exponents. Still, this comes recommended. Drink 2016-2024.
