Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, Niellon's 2014 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru la Maltroie was fighting with some reduction on the nose, quite marine-influenced with oyster shell notes developing with time but not quite as cohesive as others. The palate is well balanced with a chalky entry and good acidity, though it never builds on that initial promise since the second half feels a little flat and lacks the complexity of the Maltroie from Heitz-Lochardet tasted alongside. Perhaps it will improve in bottle?
