Of the seven Castillo Perelada wines presented, the 2000 Gran Claustro Tinto was easily the standout. It is a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 17% Carinena, and 13% Garnacha and spent 18 months in French oak. It is medium ruby in color with an attractive nose of leather, cedar, and red currants. The wine is medium bodied with plenty of ripe red fruits that do not quite cover the tannins. As a result, I would opt for drinking this tasty wine over the near term.
