Given its flavor intensity and richness, Domaine de la Mordoree's amazing 1994 Lirac is a top value. Made from a blend of 42% Syrah, 30% Mourvedre, and 28% Grenache, this dark ruby/purple-colored wine offers a fragrant, peppery, black fruit, garrigue (that unmistakable aroma of the Provencal landscape), herb, and spicy-scented nose. Full-bodied, with a beef blood-like component to its fruit, this wine offers a chewy mouthful of supple fruit that cascades over the palate. There is enough acidity and structure to give the wine balance. Drink it over the next 3-5 years, although I would not be surprised to see this Lirac (one of the finest I have tasted) last even longer. This wine was tasted between June 1 and June 16, 1996.This estate continues to upgrade the quality of its wines. Releases in the nineties have all been highly successful, even in such difficult vintages as 1992.Importer: Kysela Pere et Fils, Winchester, VA; tel (540) 888-7939
