The 2005 Caiarossa is a rich, concentrated wine packed with dark fruit and French oak. The wine possesses good depth and persistence but the aromatics aren’t perfectly clean or as well articulated as I had hoped. The 2005 Caiarossa is predominantly Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller percentages of Sangiovese, Alicante, Syrah and Mourvedre. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018.
These are the first wines I have tasted from Caiarossa, a young property in Maremma owned by Eric Albada Jelgersma, who also owns Chateau Giscours and Chateau du Tertre in Bordeaux.
