Whatever I was served last year was completely at odds with the wine I tasted in January, 2001. A year ago, the 1999 Pibran tasted light and diluted. Now, it exhibits a dense ruby color in addition to a classic Pauillac nose of cedarwood, black currants, underbrush, and new oak. A dense, plush, forward, precocious offering, it is meant to be drunk upon release, and should age nicely for a decade or more. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.
