The 2003 Brunello di Montalcino is a big, full-bodied wine loaded with dense ripe fruit, spice and scorched earth nuances. It shows outstanding depth on the palate, where the intensity of fruit provides a nice foil to the firmer tannins of the vintage. This attractive Brunello looks to be an excellent candidate for near-term drinking. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015.
In addition to making wines at his estate Col d’Orcia proprietor Count Francesco Marone Cinzano is also the newly appointed President of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. Cinzano cuts a dashing figure and his diplomatic, aristocratic background seems to be a perfect fit for leading the producers’ consortium through the challenges it faces today.
