A curiosity at Abadia Retuerta is its tiny parcel of Petite Verdot. While this grape often fails to ripen in Bordeaux, in certain warmer microclimates in Spain, it seems to flourish. The 2002 Petite Verdot is a dense purple with a nose of black fruits and toasty oak. The wine has layers of black fruit flavors, ripe tannin, and a long finish. It needs another 4-6 years to show its full potential and should drink well for an additional 10-15 years.
