The 1991 reveals that tell-tale smoky, coffee, mocha nose that reminds me of one of my favorite flavors of ice cream from Baskin-Robbins - Jamocha Almond Fudge. In the mouth, the creamy texture, sweet ripe fruit, and lusciousness make for a delicious glass of wine. These top class Merlots remain the benchmark for this varietal in California. While everything that emerges is of the highest quality level, Matanzas Creek has established itself as a reference point winery for Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Merlot.
