The least expensive offering here is the deliciously gulpable Le Pigoulet. The 2001 is the finest vintage yet produced of this Grenache-dominated blend (it includes small percentages of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and other grapes). This hand-harvested, fruit-driven effort reveals heady alcohol in its delicious personality. Strawberries, cherries, garrigue, and a hint of lavender are present in this beautifully made, value-priced wine. It should be consumed during its first 1-2 years of life.
