Apollonio's top effort is the 1998 Primitivo Terragnolo. This opaque purple-colored wine offers up abundant quantities of jammy black cherry and blackberry fruit, truffles, tar, and spice. A full-bodied, luxuriously fruity 1998 with good glycerin, purity, and overall balance, it cuts a broad, rich, concentrated swath across the palate, with no hard edges. Drink it over the next 6-7 years. Interestingly, this wine spent 4-6 months in new oak, which is not discernible because of the wealth of fruit and concentration. Bravo! This wine is bottled without filtration. This wine should definitely be checked out by value conscious readers. Importer: Seth Allen, Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. (773) 334-6700
