The 1992 Riesling-Schlossberg from the grand cru Schlossberg Vineyard exhibits a stony, flowery-scented nose, copious amounts of mineral-flavored fruit, and crisp acidity. With a tight, backward feel, it is not as flattering or as easy to taste as the other Rieslings.Among the most successful wines of the vintage in Alsace, Domaine Weinbach's 1992s compete favorably with the great wines produced at this estate in 1990 and 1989. Moreover, the international recession and a slightly stronger dollar have resulted in the lowest prices in the last decade. This brilliantly run estate is making wines that are among the finest in France. The talented Colette Faller has turned over the winemaking reins to her daughters. 1992 is the first vintage her youngest daughter has vinified and the results are impressive. The problem in Alsace in 1992 was not one of ripeness, but, rather, of too large a crop. Domaine Weinbach was one of a handful of estates that employed serious crop thinning. The results of their efforts are admirably displayed in their concentrated wines.Importer: Vineyard Brands, Chester, VT.
