The 2004 Terreus, a wine made only in top vintages (2004 certainly qualifies), is taken from a single vineyard of old vine Tempranillo. It has a complex nose of toasty oak, mineral, violets, incense, blackberry, and black cherry that leaps from the glass. Thick, rich, and opulent, this powerful yet suave offering will benefit from 4-6 years of additional bottle age and drink well through 2034. This is an impressive set of wines.
Located just outside the boundary of the more prestigious DO of Ribera del Duero, Bodegas Mauro must settle for the more generic DO of Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon. The estate has 35 hectares in production with winemaking in the hands of Alberto and Eduardo Garcia.
